  • The waether in Sahara is it is about 90 degrees in the day and 50 degrees at night. It is also very dry, and dusty.
  • The Tuareg people have to carry their goods very far distances, and they have to use their natural resources. They live on the edge of the Sahara and live in villages. People who live by the Nile River depend on the river to get water for their crops and use the water from the River to irrigate their fields.
  • In what ways do people react to environmental conditions in different areas of the Sahara? In what ways are people trying to control their environment?
Cattle graze in fields and they use irrigation for their fields
  • Farmers need irrigation because the land is very dry and dusty.Crops wouldn't grow without it because it hardly ever rains so the farmers need to water it so their crops can grow.
  • The dams will rise and go into the fields and cause flooding. It somtimes helps the crops but when its a flood its too much!
  • . The land is changing in the Sahel because there is more rain fall but still not very much. So, when the farmers graze their animals they overgraze them and all of the vegitation gets eaten away by the animals and so the land becomes dry and the soil erodes. Also, they cut down trees for fire wood and if their is no tree roots or any vegitation to hold to soil down they will use a lot of it.

Chapter 2 (Savana)
  • The Savanna is South of the Sahara, The Savanna has miles and miles of grass. In the Savanna you see lots of wildlife you will see elephants, zebras,Cape buffalo, and wildebeests. The Savanna isn't just a place for wildlife people have hunted and farmed here. The Savanna is differnt from the Sahara because no one lives in the Sahara it is too hot and dry for anyone to live in the Sahara, Sahara doesn't have wildlife like the Savanna
  • Animals depend on the grass for survival, even the ones that don't accually eat the grass they hide from other animals. The herbivores eat the grass they in turn are eaten by the carnivores this is part of the system called the food chain.
  • Countries are following the example of these migrating animals. Fences are being taken down and national parks are being joined across borders. Animals are knocking down the fences so they are just taking them down so they aren't trapped in.
  • The bad part is not all people agree with it, like farmers they want to protect thier land for farming and for the animals they dont want parks up. A farmer in Mozambique stated "The wild animals destroy our crops and they kill people. Why should we share our land with the?'
